CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS
UNION COUNTY RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION CONSTITUTION
ARTICLE 1 NAME AND PURPOSE
Section 1: The name of this organization shall be The Union County Chapter of the Retired Teacher Association, Inc. (UCRTA).
Section 2: The purpose of the organization shall be:
(a) To aid in the advancement of public schools in Union County,
(b) To foster good fellowship among retired teachers and school support personnel,
(c) To promote the interest of school personnel in Union County and the state of Ohio.
ARTICLE 2 MEMBERSHIP
Section 1: Membership in the association shall be open to all retired and former teachers, administrators and support personnel in Union County.
Section 2: Retired school personnel from other localities who have become residents of Union County are eligible to become members.
Section 3: Eligible persons shall be admitted into the UCRTA upon application accompanied by payment of dues for the current year.
Section 4: Associate members include all persons interested in the field of education. They may participate in all activities.
ARTICLE 3 OFFICERS AND DUTIES
Section 1: The officers shall be President, Vice-President, Secretary and Assistant Secretary, Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer. These officers shall constitute the Board of Directors.
Section 2: The President and Vice-President shall act respectively as Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Section 3: The remaining officers shall function in their respective capacities for both the UCRTA and the Board of Directors.
Section 4: The duties of the officers shall be such as usually pertains to their respective offices.
ARTICLE 4 ELECTIONS
Section 1: The President, at the June meeting, shall appoint a nominating committee consisting of three members who are not on the Board of Directors. This committee shall nominate seven candidates, and present the slate of proposed officers at the September meeting. Under no circumstances will this procedure prohibit nominations from the floor at the September meeting. The term of office will be two years with elections every even year.
Section 2: Offices to be filled are Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer and the assistants to each office. The Vice-President will assume the position of the President.
Section 3: If there are nominations from the floor the election shall be by ballot. The candidates for each office will be voted on separately.
Section 4: If there are no nominations made from the floor then the nominating committee’s report may be accepted in its entirety after a motion is made and accepted by the member body.
Section 5: Officers are elected to a two year term and serve from January to December. Officers may succeed themselves, if elected.
Section 6: Any vacancy occurring on the Board of Directors shall be filled by the Board of Directors for an unexpired term.
ARTICLE 5 MEETINGS
Section 1: Regular meetings of the UCTRA shall be held in April, May, June, September, October, and October on the first Friday of each month. Special arrangements or adjustments for holidays with prior notice to members and membership approved vote.
Section 2: Meetings should be held in Union County as much as possible.
ARTICLE 6 AMENDMENTS
Section 1: The Constitution and By-Laws of the association may be amended at any general meeting by a two-thirds vote of the members present, provided written notice of the proposed amendment shall have been presented at a previous meeting.
Section 2: Any proposed amendment must be signed by at least three members of the UCRTA in order to be acted upon.
BY-LAWS
ARTICLE 1: DUES
Section 1: The Board of Directors, with the approval of the members, may fix dues to meet the needs of the UCRTA. Current dues are $10.00 (ten dollars) per year.
Section 2: Dues shall be payable on the first of September, but may be collected during the June meeting. If dues have not been paid by the following December first, membership in UCRTA shall lapse.
ARTICLE 2 SUNSHINE REGULATIONS
Section 1: In case of death of a member of UCRTA, a $25.00 contribution will be made to the UCRTA Scholarship Endowment Fund.
Section 2: A sympathy card is to be sent to a member in case of death in the family of a spouse, parent, son, daughter, brother, or sister. A card will also be sent to members confined for an illness.

All home bound and nursing home residents who have been members shall be granted continuous membership in the Union County Retired Teachers Association.
